The End of the Third Term - Reflections

Image
I will not repeat what I already written in my reflections about my project in the final artwork post, but in summary I think it went really well. It was definitely the most challenging term out of the three, because in the previous ones I did not really encounter any major difficulties. In term one and two the process from the initial idea to post-production went quite smoothly and without many surprises. This term however I encountered many problems and the process itself was much more time consuming. Making mistakes and encountering problems is a natural process during creating something, but solving them and powering through them shows the true determination. Not once I was down because something come out wrong, instead I was trying to find solutions to the problems. I think this is where the most progress can be actually visible. While no project I did was 'safe', and all of them was difficult, challenging and outside of my comfort zone, the first two projects were in medi...

Creating a Website in WIX PART XI - Third term updates

Image
Since it is time to add my work to the website here you can view the editing process of updating the entire site, from homepage to portfolio. Long story short, I updated the homepage with a new name, since now I have both photography and video on the website. I also changed slightly my bio in which I included more information about cinematography and film. Then I added a new subpage for my newest project. In the editing process it is shown that I added my film to the website through vimeo, however after that I decided to try uploading it straight to the site. I was surprised when I found out that Wix's compression is much better than both YouTube and Vimeo. I am fine with how my film looks on it, and it looks much better there than on the Vimeo. Later I also added a few seconds of preview into the homepage so there would be some footage from the newest project. I did not change anything else because I really like my website, I think it looks professional and clean. Also during the...

Major Project TERM III - Creating a promotional video

Image
Since I finished the film itself, I finally can create a promotional video for it. I decided that I will create a short trailer for the film. Here it is. I am not used to editing trailers but I think it has the right pacing. Not sure about the captions but overall I am fine with how it looks.  Music used in this trailer is Royalty Free. And here you can view editing process.  The editing of this trailer was pretty straightforward. I just put the entire film into the editing programme and I chopped of the pieces I needed. I kept in mind the drops in the music, and edited to the beat. ___________________________ Sources: Fesliyan, D. (2018). It is coming . Major Project TERM III - Creating a poster

Image
There is no film without a poster, so I decided to create one. I based the initial idea on B class horrors from from the 1960s, like ' Plan 9 from outer space'. Here is the final design. And below you can view the contact sheet and the process of editing it with my commentary on the form of captions. And here is the video with editing process. This is definitely not my best work but I think it is good enough. I like the monochrome silhouettes captured in this moon like circle. I also like how the captions turned out, these deformed titles really remind me of the old cheap horror films.

Creating a Website in WIX PART X - Feedback about our Portfolio

Image
During today's class we were writing feedback for each other in pairs.  Feedback picture I was paired with Tatiana, and this is what I received. ' Because you are on a different subject area than mine, I did not understand your actual theme. You have an introduction about you but you did not have much details about your portfolios. Every picture that you put on your portfolio has a name but no description so it was hard to understand what are you trying to show. Overall the quality of your work was impeccable and the website was easy to follow. I appreciate that your portfolios were on the first page as I accessed your website . My recommendation is only to describe more your project to be easy for everyone to understand it. ' The main recommendation was to add more description to my photographs and the overall project. It is a valid point. Usually when I am thinking about my website I am thinking about it through a person who is familiar with my project and also is famili...

Major Project TERM III - Final Artwork and reflections

Image
Below you can view the final film on Vimeo, since YouTube destroyed the quality completely. The Vimeo compression is also not the best but it looks better than the YouTube one. Please have in mind that if the film have some weird discolorations or is pixelated it is because of the video compression, and not because of how film actually looks. Underneath the link you can also read my reflections about this project. A Long Night on Vimeo It was a really risky project to do, since I am not an experienced editor, actor, or writer, and the time constraint also did not help. Nonetheless, I managed to finish this project on time and I am very proud of how it turned out. During the process of both shooting and editing I encounter many obstacles, like underlit shooting locations, or tracking problems, but I did not give up and quickly adapted to any situation. This type of creative problem solving gave me a whole new insight into why filmmaking is a team task not a project typically for on...

Major Project TERM III - Production and Post-production PART III

Image
This is the last part of post-production. Below you can see last three sections of the film which I had to edit. The overall shoot took me eleven nights, and I spend another fifteen days editing it. The recorded editing sessions are only a representation of the editing process, since I was editing a multiple versions of each scene, which is why it took so long. In the end I ended up with around 250 clips. Park This is the section which I am least proud of. I don't really like the timing and the scene in general does not sit right with me. It would be much better if I was able to shoot at the skatepark, but it was not possible. Shop I like this sequence, I initially used the theme from 'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly' created by Ennio Morricone, but since it was copyrighted I changed it to a public domain piece. Besides stitching this part was not so difficult to edit. The only thing which was quite difficult was to cut the clips to the bit. Chase Definitely the most diffic...
