The End of the Third Term - Reflections
I will not repeat what I already written in my reflections about my project in the final artwork post, but in summary I think it went really well. It was definitely the most challenging term out of the three, because in the previous ones I did not really encounter any major difficulties. In term one and two the process from the initial idea to post-production went quite smoothly and without many surprises. This term however I encountered many problems and the process itself was much more time consuming.
Making mistakes and encountering problems is a natural process during creating something, but solving them and powering through them shows the true determination. Not once I was down because something come out wrong, instead I was trying to find solutions to the problems.
I think this is where the most progress can be actually visible. While no project I did was 'safe', and all of them was difficult, challenging and outside of my comfort zone, the first two projects were in medium I known well. I was learning photo editing and manipulation for many years now, so learning new things was not so difficult. This term however, I never created the entire film by myself and on each and every step of this project I was learning from the ground up. How to write a coherent story, how to use light and its lack for my advantage, and finally the more advanced editing practises, which helped me visualize my ideas. Learning through mistakes is, in my opinion, the fastest way to learn.
Overall, I learned a lot this year. Especially, in terms of my style, the artists which inspire me, and my abilities in general. Each term I did something more demanding and something which would challenge my abilities. This term I was also able to do everything on time and according to my set project plan. My research was even more in-depth and contextual to my project than last terms and the amount techniques and overall things I learned is overwhelming for me. I am proud of my work and, while my projects are containing mistakes and are definitely not perfect, I believe that I gave my best each term.
