Creating a Website in WIX PART III - Researching Artists' Websites

In this post I will be looking at the websites of other photographers in order to see how my own website should look like.

1. Brandon Woelfel - https://www.brandonwoelfel.com/photography-1

The style of this photographer is quite similar to mine, therefore I thought that I can learn a lot from his website.
His page is very clean and simple. There are no unnecessary options or pages. What is great with this page is that his photos are right on top of everything. His photos is the first thing you see, therefore you can quickly decide if you like his work or not.

His menu bar has a lot of subpages but all of them are necessary.
I like how the entire page is in one simple and clean theme.

2. Jessica Kobeissi - http://www.jessicakobeissi.com/

Similarly to the previous website this one is also very clean looking. I also like in this website that you can see that photos are the most important thing. We are attacked by the pictures right from the start which is great if you are looking for a photographer to hire.

Her menu bar is a lot simpler then the Brandon's menu bar. I also like that only the most important subpages are visible and the rest is hidden in the '+Extra' category.

The rest of her website is also very clean and minimalistic.

The thing that I will not take as an inspiration is Jessica's bio. I find it too short and not detailed enough. She is a very popular photographer and because of that she can write such short bio, but I think that I have to write something a bit longer.

3. Ana Hell - https://www.anahell.com/

Ana Hell is a Spanish artist and photographer. I find her work very interesting and inspirational. Her page just as the previous ones I very minimalistic and her photographs are on the first plan.

Her bio is a bit more extensive than the other ones. It is longer, but not too long, therefore it is an easy, quick read from which you can learn a lot, because of a lot of condensed informations included in this bio.

In conclusion, I have learned a lot from these websites. Now I know that the simplicity and clear message of the page is the most important. The photographs have to be the most important part of the page since this is why people will visit the website. As for the bio, it cannot be too short, if you are not a very well known artist, but also it cannon be to long, because then no one will read it. It is very important to find the good balance in this.
I will definitely apply the knowledge I got from these websites in my own website.

Comments

  1. You have written surprisingly little here as research - you needed to discuss in more depth the websites design, how they work, navigation etc essentially user experience and how this informs your work on your website - more needed!

  2. It's great you look at so many websites. What I would di is to add a little comment under each screen shot with your opinion.
