Welcome! - about me and my influences
My name is Nikodem. I'm eighteen years old and I am studying at DMU.
I am interested in almost every visual medium. Ranging from murals to paintings and from photography to cinematography.
I do all kinds of photography, but most often choose people as my subject.
I have a bit of experience in shooting at kindergartens, parties, and single-person photoshoots, those are the fields where I feel most confident in my abilities.
I love working with different kinds of lights. I often use neon lights and LEDs in my pictures.
I usually shoot with my Panasonic G7 and a 35mm (which after conversion is around 45mm) 1.7 lens. This camera does not have the sharpest sensor, but it is quite versatile because it can also shoot 4K videos.
Most often, I am editing my photos on my phone or iPad because I feel like I can do far more precise edits on a touch screen.
As for some of my inspirations from the world of photography and cinematography.
I think that the first person that comes to my mind is Brandon Woelfel. He is a twenty-six year old american photographer. He never went to any art school, he learned everything by himself. He most often is taking portrait photos in limited light conditions. He often uses neon signs and other lights in his photos which gives very magical feel to them. His edited photos can be easily recognized because of the amount of work he puts in them. During his editing process he focuses deeply about the reflections (like glasses or water) and retouching skin.
Another person who had a big influence on my art is Claudio Miranda. Chilean cinematographer responsible, for example for cinematography in 'Life of Pi' for which he received an Oscar and 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button'. Claudio Miranda over the years worked with greatest directors on some of the most visually compelling movies ever. He specializes in shooting sci-fi films in which he likes to use different lightning techniques (for example glowing suits in 'Tron: Legacy') and new technologies (like projections of clouds in 'Oblivion'). He also participated in a quite interesting project in 2015 with Robert Rodriguez. He shot a sci-fi film which will be released in one hundred years, in 2115. I had a pleasure of participating in one of Claudio Miranda's workshops during Camerimage Film Festival in Bydgoszcz.
Last artist I look up to is Peter Greenaway. He is a very talented cinematographer, writer as well as a painter. He started working in film industry in early sixties and later started writing and painting. His cinematography can be described as raw and natural. He only uses natural light in his films and the always makes sure that everything is in focus. His depth of field is usually infinite, because he wants to shoot pictures as they would be seen by naked eye. One of his more famous films - 'Nightwatching' follows Rembrandt's love and professional life. A lot of the scenes in this film are the recreations of some of actual Rembrandt's paintings.

Good introduction about yourself but you needed to add someone or something that inspired you with research - please add this as per my examples on my blog - we will go through these again today
ReplyDeleteGood work Nick much improved - it would be good though to add a references section at the end not just add the references under the images as the point of these is the source of images - references are for where you have sourced information
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you Nikodem! I can’t wait to see your work.
