Creating a Website in WIX PART V - Critically Evaluating Your Website

In this post I will be critically evaluating my website.

Planning stage:

1. What were your initial ideas for creating a website? style / name / template

I wanted my website to be minimalistic and clean. I wanted to have only necessary functions and as few subpages as possible. I decided that the website's name will be my name. Since, my name is quite unique it will be easy to find it on google. For my template I chose the template 'Wedding Photography', which is a unipage design with no unnecessary additions.

2. Do you have a tagline on your website.

I do not. I find taglines on websites usually quite annoying and unprofessional, especially for a one man brand.

Research:

1. Which designers/artists (relevant to your continuation route) websites did you look for inspiration?

I researched three websites of famous photographers, namely Brandon Woelfel, Jessica Kobeissi, and Ana Hell.

2. How many pages did you want to make on your website and why? Did that change as you progressed onto your research / designing stage?

I originally wanted to have a one page design with all of the information on it one, after the other. I did not changed my idea after my research.

Content:

1. What is the purpose of your website?

A purpose for my website is for people to see my work and possibly hire me as, either event or session photographer.

2. Who are your potential website users?

My potential website users are my future clients and people who are interested in my work as an artist.

3. Why do you think it is important to have a digital portfolio website?

I think that it is important to have a place where you can show off your work. Especially when you want to make a career out of it. This place is your own website, where you can view your work and book a session all in one place.

Design:

1. Which design elements / tools did you use (e.g.: infographics, fixed header, static background image, navigation menu design, text boxes, image galleries, social media feed) and why?

In my website design I used fixed header, so the navigation menu is always visible when you scroll the website. I changed the design of the navigation menu so it better matched the website style. I allocated my portfolio photos in WIX image gallery, so it was easy to navigate. I also added a link to this blog next to the contact sheet, so people could view my other work.

2. Which template did you use in WIX and why?

As I mentioned above, I chose the 'Wedding Photography' template, because of its simple and clean design, and also because of its monopage design.

3. How many pages have your website and why?

My website has one page divided into four sections. I chose this format because I like when I can view the entire website with just one slider. I find it more immerseful when I do not have to change the subpages every second to find more information.

Navigation:

1. Does your website have working social media icon links?

Yes, I have added an icon link to this blog.

2. Are your pages connected/interlinked?

My website is a monopage, but the individual sections connected and can be separately accessed in menu bar.

3. Is it easy to navigate?

I find it easy to navigate. Because of its monopage design there are no dead ends, so even when you are lost you can just scroll back up.

4. Does the 'Contact' page/email link work?

Yes, it does.
