Research class exercise - into, through and for
During today's lesson we were looking back at our research that we have done in the past.
Name something you have researched in the past for art, design and media:
I have recently looked at the tutorials explaining different ways of compositing in Photoshop, as a part of my major project research.
Explain how you researched this:
Most of the information I got was from the tutorials on YouTube, from several different channels, namely PiXimperfect, Peter McKinnon and Phlearn. Besides YouTube, I have sourced a lot of information from the Photoshop tutorials, that are available in the app itself.
What facts did you discovered?
I have learned quite a lot about the basic techniques of compositing. I now know how to do sky replacement, and know the importance of matched color correction between photos. Besides, I have also learned how to match the perspective of different photos.
What new conclusions did you establish?
In the beginning of my research I thought that the image compositing is much easier then it actually was. There is many variables that make the compositing good.

Research INTO my major project
For this part of the major project research I will be exploring the way David Fincher uses the colours in his stories and how the lighting in his films changed from one film to the next one. The aesthetic of Fincher's films is uncanny and in order to mimic his 'look' I have to do a profound analysis of his colouring techniques.
Research THROUGH my major project
In this part of the research I will be researching new compositing techniques in Photoshop that will add more realism to my pictures. Besides, I will apply the knowledge I got from the previous point and learn new techniques of colour correction in Lightroom.
Research FOR my major project
For the last part of my research I will be looking at films about the problems that young adults might face in everyday, independent life. I will be looking at films, like 'Juno' (2007) directed by Jason Reitman, 'American Honey' (2016) directed by Andrea Arnold, and 'Eighth Grade' (2018) directed by Bo Burnham. Besides that, for more technical aspects of my work I will look closely into 'Downsizing' (2017) directed by Alexander Payne.
