Icebreaker PART II - Head Bust research

While for this 3D self-portrait I wasn't inspired by any art in particular, at the end of the first term I created another 3D self-portrait which was directly inspired by works of David Černý.

While Černý's sculptures can be seen all over the world, it is Prague, where most of his artworks are stationed. From vulgar sculptures to busts of famous writers, Černý's artworks are definitely one of the most interesting aspects of Prague.

For me the most mesmerising piece of his is 'Head of Franz Kafka', over ten meter high and forty five tone bust of Franz Kafka, famous author of pieces like 'Metamorphosis' or 'The Trial'.

This moving sculpture visualizes the personality and conflicted emotions of Franz Kafka and like in his short story 'Metamorphosis' it morphs from something seemingly random to the portrait of the author (Jobson, 2016).

David Černý besides creating art based on looks of other artists, also creates more abstract and controversial art. From 'Babies' with barcodes printed into their heads, to 'Piss' sculpture representing two man urinating on each other, these creations make David Černý one of the most interesting artists working today.
