Major Project TERM III - Further research & the direction of my project

During today's class we had to write about our research we carried out so far.

Test shot for scene 5

As of now I carried out to big pieces of research about two artists. Gregory Crewdson, American photographer who shoots his photos on location with giant film size crew, and Edward Hopper, American painter who was famous for creating scenes in which he presented few characters. The common element between these two artists is the visual storytelling included in those images. Both Hopper and Crewdson create remote, isolated scenes in which we feel the alienation of our characters.

How has my research, so far, informed my project?
I researched both of these artists because of their visual language. In my film I want to create a feeling of isolation and that the main character is the only person in the whole world. With help of artworks created by Hopper and Crewdson I feel much more confident in how I will shoot my film in order to create the atmosphere I had in mind.

How useful has my research been?
I found researching both of these artists very useful and helpful in developing my own visual language which I will apply to my film. Every work of both Hopper and Crewdson relates in some way to what I want to create. Ranging from lighting, all the way to framing.

What research will I carry out next to build on previous research?
Right now I am in the middle of writing another big piece of research about more advanced editing techniques which will help me better visualize the story I want to tell. Besides that I will also write a piece of research regarding different dream sequences from film and how different filmmakers shot it.

How will the further research inform my work?
Every piece of research I will carry our will be contextual to my final film. Editing research will help me in making my film look more profound and complete. Researching dream sequences will help me better understand how I can shoot my own film, in which majority of the action is happening in the dream.
